Frequently Asked Questions for Laser Hair Removal
What are the characteristics of a good candidate for laser hair removal?
If you are concerned about unwanted hair, you are probably a good candidate for laser hair removal. Nearly everyone is a candidate, and dramatic results can be achieved on a wide variety of skin types. Due to a lack of chromophores serving as targets for lasers, grey and some blond hair will not respond to laser treatments.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Most patients describe the feeling from laser pulses as either a snap of a rubber band or a series of light pin pricks to the skin. Sensitivity depends on pain threshold and can also vary depending on the part of the body. Post-procedure discomfort may feel like sunburn, and may be remedied with over-the-counter pain medication as recommended.
What is the recovery time I should expect?
You should be able to resume normal activities immediately. Normally, the skin is slightly red and could be swollen for up to 48 hours.
Which skin types can be treated at Hotchandani Laser & Vein Center?
Most skin types (Fitzpatrick scale I through IV) can be treated by the lasers used at Hotchandani Laser & Vein Center. Laser technology has advanced significantly from the days when darker and tanned skin was unable to be treated. For people with darker skin types, we may offer test spots to avoid possible pigmentation changes and/or potential blistering.
Are lasers safe?
Laser technology has been used safely in a variety of medical procedures including eye correction and dermatology for many years. Temporary blisters and/or pigmentation changes in the skin resulting from excessive energy levels have occurred, but the most common injuries caused by lasers are eye related. Use of eye protection and the wealth of Hotchandani Laser & Vein Center experience using lasers minimize this risk.
