Photo-Dynamic Therapy
We at Hotchandani Laser & Vein Centers are excited with the impressive results we have observed with this advanced therapy. Conditions that can benefit from Photodynamic Therapy include:
- Moderate to severe cystic acne
- Sebaceous hyperplasia
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven skin texture
- Wrinkles
- Pigmentation changes
- Pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratosis)
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY - ACNE TREATMENT
This is one of the most recent advances in acne therapy. Treatment consists of the application of Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid), which is converted to a photosensitizing agent when applied, which is then activated with one of our light sources (i.e. Omnilux Red Lights, IPL, Gemini or V-Beam lasers). This results in significant improvement in moderate to severe acne.
There are three mechanisms of action when using Levulan for the treatment of acne:
- Levulan inactivates the bacteria that trigger acne.
- Exfoliates the skin to unclog pores.
- Shuts down the sebaceous glands in the skin as they are the main cause in the formation of acne.
We are seeing good results in patients who have had treatment failure with Accutane and other acne treatments.
PHOTODYNAMIC PHOTO REJUVENATION
This is one of our most advanced and exciting treatments we offer for skin rejuvenation. Compared to Photo Rejuvenation techniques used in the past, Photo Dynamic Photo Rejuvenation requires fewer treatments with very impressive results as the treatment is targeted for abnormal cells including fast growing cells in case of actinic keratosis.
Photo Dynamic Photo Rejuvenation is used for sun damage, rosacea, wrinkles, pre-cancerous conditions such as actinic keratosis and pigmentation changes.
Usually one to three treatments are recommended, but even after the first treatment the results are noticeable. Again, Levulan is applied and light sources are used to activate photosensitizing agent.
PROCEDURE:
The skin is prepared with light microdermabrasion or gently wiped off with Acetone. Levulan is applied and left on the skin for one to two hours. A light source is used to activate the Levulan. During the treatment there may be some slight stinging that subsides after the treatment is completed.
POST-PROCEDURE:
You must stay out of the bright lights or sun for the next forty (40) hours. Your skin may be red and swollen. There may be some discomfort, but no significant pain. Benadryl, Claritin and/or cool compresses may be used.
Photo Dynamic Photo Rejuvenation is not just for skin involving face but it is used for neck, chest, arms, hands or any other place where improvement is desired.
