Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels vary in strength and are classified as superficial, medium and deep. Superficial Chemical Peels are generally the preferred treatment path at Hotchandani Laser & Vein Center though deeper dermal peels such as the Obagi Blue Peel are also available upon request. In most cases we prefer our state of the art light sources and laser technology achieve superior results when deeper dermal remodeling is desired.

What to Expect

Results of your Chemical Peel treatments including smoother, healthier and more vibrant skin should be noticeable immediately and will gradually improve over time. Chemical Peel treatments improve fine lines, correct subtle skin pigmentation irregularities caused by sun damage and soften acne and acne scars.

We are proud to offer La Roche-Posay's renowned LHA Peels™ (Lipo-Hydroxy-Acid Breakthrough micro-exfoliating molecule), which provides precise and even cell-by-cell exfoliation leading to radiant glowing skin, even skin tones and diminished appearance of fine lines and sun or age spots.

How Does it Work?

Chemical Peels are a method of resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled epidermal/dermal injury to the skin.  Chemical Peels are most commonly performed on the face, but have also been used on the neck, chest, back and hands. There are many active ingredients that can be used including alpha-hydroxy-acid, glycolic and lactic acid, beta-hydroxy/salicylic acid, a combination of salicylic acid, resorcinol, and lactic acid, and trichloroacetic acid 10-20%.

Patient Experience

A Chemical Peel usually takes around an hour. Depending on your skin health, three to eight treatments spaced three to four weeks apart may be recommended for best results. Minor redness immediately after the procedure usually fades within hours and there is no downtime.

What are the characteristics of a good candidate for Chemical Peels?

If you are concerned about skin texture, and would like to unlock your skin’s underlying vibrancy by treating acne, comedones or simply to improve dull or rough skin, and you are seeking immediate results with no downtime, Chemical Peels may be for you.

Are Chemical Peels safe?

Chemical Peels are very safe as they are minimally-invasive procedures that have been widely used for many years. Treatments may be performed on any skin type.

Are Chemical Peel treatments painful?

Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure itself. You may feel an acute stinging sensation for up to 30 seconds when the Chemical Peel is first applied and is most intense. However, if your pain threshold is very low, a reversal agent will be nearby to quickly return the pH back to normal.

What is the recovery time I should expect?

The procedure is minimally-invasive and the down time you will experience depends upon peel depth and strength. With a superficial peel, redness usually subsides in minutes to hours.

How can I improve and maintain results?

Following your scheduled treatment regimen, it may be recommended to do maintenance treatments periodically. Longevity of results will improve if you take care to use sunscreen when in the sun, avoid tanning beds, and minimize other activities that will damage your skin like smoking.
