Photo-Rejuvenation Treatment

CUTERA® Excel® V Laser works by using different wavelengths of green light to selectively target tissue that needs to be destroyed. When delivered, the laser originally feels like a warm, flicking sensation that cools down. The gentle warmth of the laser will trigger the body’s natural healing response, which will jumpstart a new production of collagen and elastin. 

This makes the Excel® V Laser an excellent option for treating photodamage like fine lines and wrinkles. As the new proteins are formed, the skin becomes tighter and slightly plumper, adding volume to your facial creases. The activation of the healing process also triggers a skin resurfacing treatment, causing the top layer of the skin to shed off. This makes it very effective at reducing sunspots. 

The light of Excel® V Laser is also absorbed by the blood vessels in the skin, causing them to collapse and reducing excess redness. This can be very effective against spidery red veins around the cheeks and nose caused by UV exposure. As your skin tone becomes more even, you can look forward to a more youthful appearance. 

Rosacea Treatment

Patients with rosacea are effectively treated with Excel® V Laser. Treatments prevent the development of rosacea acne, and it reduces flushing and blushing. This treatment allows patients the chance to avoid topical creams and oral medication when they have regular Excel® V Laser treatments.

Photo-rejuvenation with Excel® V Laser is non-invasive and does not use incisions or needles to pierce your skin. With that in mind, you can still expect several side effects after the procedure. Slight swelling and redness are common after leaving the office, however, those effects should not last longer than a few hours. Mild bruising can also appear after the treatment, but it is short-lived.

To promote recovery and minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, we recommend that you avoid direct sunlight exposure and use broad-spectrum sunblock. Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and hot showers after the treatment, as this can worsen inflammation. Strenuous exercise is also to be avoided after the procedure, as it can increase the bruising. The side effects often fade within seven days, after which you will likely start noticing improvement in the skin.

It takes some time to see the results of photo-rejuvenation treatments with Excel® V Laser, as patients have to wait for the skin cell turnover. The first results are usually seen within two weeks. It might take months for some patients to notice significant results, especially as the skin cell turnover continues. 

Depending on how deep your photodamage is, you may need more than one treatment session. Dr. Hotchandani often recommends three sessions, spaced one month apart from each other, as this leads to higher collagen production. Deeper, darker lesions often take longer to disappear. Results are long lasting, but patients should have maintenance treatments as recommended. 

To make your photo-rejuvenation treatments last longer, you should take care of your skin from day one after the procedure. Use sunblock every day with at least a 30 rating to prevent more photodamage from occurring. Skincare is essential for photo rejuvenation, so it’s recommended to have a good routine set in place. Consider using medical-grade products, as they have a higher nourishing power and can offer better protection for the skin.
