Cellfina for Cellulite Treatment

When it comes to our physiology, we know that men have it a little bit easier than women, right? No birthing babies, no menopause, no monthly interruptions to work around. Cellulite is another thing women have to struggle with but most men don’t, and getting rid of it or improving the appearance of cellulite can be an uphill battle with little progress to show for it.

That’s all about to change.

Cellulite affects more than 80% of women over the age of 20, but it’s rare in men. It creates dimples and craters in the skin, most often in the thighs or buttocks, resulting in a bumpy appearance that most women find unsightly. If you’re one of the many, many women frustrated by cellulite, Hotchandani Laser wants you to know there’s an FDA-cleared cellulite treatment that’s here to help: Cellfina.

How it works

Cellfina was cleared by the FDA for treatment of cellulite on the buttocks and thighs in 2014, and the results have been amazing. As a minimally invasive procedure, Cellfina reduces the appearance of cellulite in an innovative way that gets to the source of the problem. Cellulite is caused by bands of tissue, called fibrous bands or septae, that connect your skin to tissues underneath. Sometimes, though, these septae can pull skin down in certain areas and make the fat in the surrounding areas appear more prominently, resulting in the dimpled appearance that many of us know all too well.

Before Cellfina, the only other FDA-cleared treatments for cellulite involved lasers and energy-wave therapies, but these treatments tend to be more expensive and less lasting and have more risks and side effects than Cellfina. Cellfina lasts longer because it actually gets to the root cause of cellulite: the fibrous bands of tissue pulling the skin down unevenly. To get rid of the appearance of cellulite, Cellfina targets these bands and uses subcision to sever the bands’ hold on your skin, allowing it to bounce back into place and regain its smooth, elastic appearance.

The treatment process

The time it takes to get the Cellfina treatment for cellulite is usually one to two hours, depending on the physician and the size of the area being treated, and it’s a fairly straightforward process.

To start the cellulite treatment, the physician will have you stand up so they can mark the cellulite dimples and know precisely where the treatment needs to be performed. Once the area has been marked, you’ll be numbed with local anesthetic, usually something along the lines of a lidocaine injection. After the numbing agent has taken effect, your physician will then begin the procedure by using the Cellfina device to apply soft suction to your skin, as this helps stabilize it for better precision. Your physician will then insert a tiny microblade just under your skin and, using a sort of fanning motion, carefully sever the connective, fibrous bands of tissue causing your cellulite. This is done for each dimple that is treated and, on average, 20 to 30 dimples can be treated in an hour-long session.

Side effects and risks

Since Cellfina is minimally invasive and not a complicated procedure, there are minimal side effects and few risks. Most patients report experiencing tenderness, swelling, and bruising after the cellulite treatment, but this is manageable and resolves within a few days. Your physician should recommend wearing compression garments for a week or two after the procedure to help minimize swelling.

Compared to other forms of FDA-approved cellulite treatment, Cellfina has fewer side effects and reduced risks. With laser treatments especially, there’s a higher chance of more intense pain and swelling afterward, and the laser can lead to burns and other serious risks. On top of that, the results from laser and energy-wave cellulite treatments don’t last as long as Cellfina, usually only around a year, because they focus on thickening the skin or breaking down the cellulite instead of actually treating the cause of it.

Results

The results from Cellfina cellulite treatment have been impressive and reliable. While the experience does vary by patient, the majority of women who have been treated with Cellfina report a dramatic reduction in the appearance of cellulite that lasts for two years or more. Results can be seen within three months of the cellulite treatment, and some even report seeing improved appearance in as little as a few days. Since the microblade is so tiny, there’s no scarring from Cellfina, so the only evidence that you’ve had it done will be the incredible smoothness of your skin.
