For millions of Americans, excessive underarm sweating, also known as axillary hyperhidrosis, is a condition that can interfere with almost every aspect of life. Whether it causes anxiety at work, embarrassment in social settings, or frustration over clothing choices, excessive sweating can have a significant negative effect on your emotional well-being and self-esteem.
miraDry® is a revolutionary, non-surgical treatment that permanently reduces underarm sweat and odor. The procedure is FDA cleared, safe, and effective.
- Ideal Candidates
- miraDry® Treatment
- Recovery and Results
Candidates for treatment with miraDry® are in good general health and are concerned about excessive sweating. You may be a good candidate if you suffer from the following issues:
- Sweat stains that make you self-conscious
- Underarm odor even when you wear deodorant
- Excessive sweating that is not remedied by prescription-strength products
The miraDry® procedure is quick, non-invasive, and provides a long-lasting solution for excessive underarm sweat. First, the areas to be treated will be marked, and a local anesthetic will be injected for your comfort. The miraDry® handpiece is placed on the underarm and delivers precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the treatment area. The electromagnetic energy causes a thermal reaction under the skin that eliminates the sweat glands. The skin itself is cooled throughout the procedure to help prevent any damage.
Once the treatment has been performed, the glands are no longer able to produce sweat. miraDry® is the only non-invasive sweat reduction technology that is FDA cleared and clinically proven. Other treatment options designed to disable the sweat glands often involve surgery, which contains inherent risks.

Recovery and Results
There is little to no downtime following your procedure. You should be able to return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. Most men and women can resume exercise within several days. Some localized soreness or swelling is normal and usually clears within a few weeks.
Most patients report a dramatic reduction in underarm sweating and odor. Many patients also notice a reduction in underarm hair, as hair follicles are at the same depth as sweat glands.
How long will my treatment take?
Your appointment will take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete, which includes the time to prep, numb, and treat your underarms.
How many treatments will I need?
Your treatment plan will be customized to your needs, but about 80 percent of patients need only one procedure. For more severe cases, two sessions spaced three months apart may be required.
Is miraDry® safe?
While sweat glands are necessary for temperature regulation, your body has two to four million of them. Only about two percent of your sweat glands are located in the underarms. Eliminating sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry®, excessive underarm sweating will be reduced, but the treatment will not affect other areas of the body.
